BreakAway Expands Management Team
Baltimore, MD (8/7/06) --- BreakAway Ltd. – one of the country’s foremost developers of entertainment games, serious games, and simulation training tools – has expanded its management team in response to continued growth within both its Entertainment and Federal Systems Divisions.
“The additions we have made to our management team will enable BreakAway to more fully leverage the opportunities for growth created by the rapidly evolving marketplace for simulations, while solidifying BreakAway’s position as the leader in serious games,” says BreakAway Founder and CEO Doug Whatley.
Three executives have been added to BreakAway’s management team since the start of this year.
· Paul Mauritz, who formerly served as Assistant Secretary for Technology and Business Development with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), has been named Executive Vice President for Corporate Strategy and General Manager of BreakAway Federal Systems. In that position, Mauritz will handle business development, sales, and marketing, while overseeing BreakAway’s serious games business – including its flagship product, mosbe™, the industry’s first lite simulation platform.
· Lawrence Brenner, former Chief Financial Officer of Boulder Ventures, a $225 million early-stage venture fund, will serve as Executive Vice President of Finance and Operations. Brenner, who previously served as CFO and COO of Chesapeake Commercial Properties, assumes responsibility for financial planning and management, IT infrastructure, and risk management to support BreakAway’s strategic and development initiatives.
· Thomas Kingston, another DBED alumnus, is BreakAway’s new Director of Business Development. The former Senior Director for Advanced Technology at DBED will support business development efforts for BreakAway Federal Systems.
In addition, BreakAway veteran Deb Tillett assumes overall responsibility for entertainment and serious game development as Executive Vice President of Development. Lucien Parsons, an Executive Producer with BreakAway since 2004, has been named Director of Licensed Products for BreakAway Federal Systems. Parsons will manage the development and marketing of mosbe™.
“BreakAway’s leadership position in the modeling and simulation market is a shining example of the strength of the technology community in Maryland,” says DBED Secretary Aris Melissaratos. “I am pleased that [DBED alumni like Paul and Tom will] help this outstanding Maryland technology company extend its market leadership.”
BreakAway currently has several new game titles under development. The company also has mined its intellectual property to create mosbe™, a user-friendly, mobile, lite simulation development platform. mosbe™ puts the capability to develop simulations into the hands of the user. Ideally suited for the military, intelligence, homeland security, medical, and first responder communities, mosbe™ simplifies the production and sharing of new environments and scenarios that are critical to training, analysis, and experimentation.
